The specification mandates that true MIL-C-5040H Type 4 cord have 11 core strands. Each core strand in 5col's paracord is 3-ply. One of these strands is the designated marker strand, with a different color yarn. This marker strand acts as an identifier for military parachute riggers. Should one of the parachute lines fail, the riggers will know which factory it came from.
