Scrape – Use a knife or the included striker to scrape magnesium shavings directly onto your tinder (dry leaves, paper, cotton balls, etc.). Pile them loosely for better airflow. Strike – Hold the ferrocerium rod close to the shavings and scrape firmly with the striker to direct sparks onto the magnesium pile.
