We offer for your consideration your great grandpas waterproof Match Case. This water proof match case is a patented design by the Marble company. The Marble company was making gear for outdoors-men, adventurers, and hunters for many years at the turn of the 19th century.Everything from a "Pocket Axe" to a "Coat Compass". Their equipment was used by President Roosevelt, and carried by Admiral Peary on his North pole expedition. The company still exist today, but their manufacturing has moved over seas, and has been considerably limited these days. This match safe is one of six designs that were created over the years. This design, the one with the loop bail, was their most popular and the one with the longest manufacturing run (1935-1969)But we believe it is from the 1940s, because it was found in a box of other items that were dated to that time period. This match safe is waterproof, the cylinder measures approximately 2 5/8 inches and is approximately 7/8 of an inch in diameter (measured at the base) It is constructed of Nickel plated Brass. If you are an outdoors person with a love of vintage, practical, and usefully designed gear, this is a pretty nifty item to have in your kit.
