Another great way to create fire! The large 50mm/2" (D) biconvex 6x magnification lens is perfect for solar fire lighting. In general, you will find it hard to get a fire started with a lens with a magnification strength of below 5x so this lens should be more than enough to get your fire started. To get you started, we have also included two pieces of free Cotton Char Cloth! The lens also comes with a velvet drawstring storage bag. Using the lens to create fire is simple. Holding the magnifying glass around the edges, making sure not to block out any sun start to angle the lens so that it faces the sun. It is important to adjust the distance from your tinder bundle. Try and get the circle of light as small as possible, a more concentrated light source will provide more heat. Only certain tinder materials will work with this method of fire lighting, one of my favourites is char cloth. Nestle the char cloth inside your tinder bundle and as an ember starts to form start to provide oxygen by blowing. For obvious reasons this will only work on a sunny day. Sheltering the tinder bundle from the wind will also increase your chances of success.
